Getting Into Facebook Feed 30x Harder Than Getting Into Harvard

Ashley: Contrary to popular belief, everything you post on Facebook doesn’t show up in the top position on every one of your Fans’ Facebook News Feeds. There are many factors that rule the EdgeRank of your Page which decide how frequently and to whom your content is shown. There are, however, a few tips and tricks to optimize your Facebook content to get the biggest reach for your post.

Google Launches Structured Data Markup Helper for Schema

Google Structured Data Markup Helper - Rich Snippet Tool

JoAnna: Implementing Schema markup on your website can pay off big for expanding your business’ search engine presence. However, it can also be a technically complicated task, especially if you’re not used to editing raw HTML. Last week, the official Google Webmaster Tools blog announced the launch of the Structured Data Markup Helper, a new tool to add rich snippets to your website. With this new structured data tool, users can submit a website URL or HTML source, and the tool will help you visually tag the content with microdata markup. The tool currently supports an array of structured data types, including articles, events, local businesses, products, and more. Thanks, Google!

PicsArt App Brings New Photo Editing Options to Instagram

Lydia: Billed to me as “Instagram on crack (sidenote: crack is wack, y’all),” PicsArt Photo Studio (Free) is a new-ish photo editing and sharing app. I say new-ish because while it just came out a few months ago in the Apple App Store, it’s initial release for Android garnered it 35 Million Downloads in a little over a year. While the photo discovery is not nearly as good as on Instagram, PicsArt’s photo editing options are pretty boss. To get the best use out of all of the editing features in PicsArt, you’ll need to spend some time learning your way around. Thankfully, there are plenty of tutorial videos to help you get started.

Jell-O Wants Your FML (With A Twist)

Mathew: FML. One of the most used 3 letter combinations up there with LOL and OMG. We all know what Laugh Out Loud and Oh My Gosh are — but FML? JELL-O says it means Fun My Life, and they are very confused why such sad people Hashtag it on Twitter so often. JELL-O is giving a handful of lucky #FML twitterers a special surprise, and have begun replying to the hashtag with coupons, encouragement, and more! This is funning awesome.

Facebook Adds Profile Verification Check Marks Similar to Twitter and Google+

Amanda: If you’ve been on Facebook this week, you’ve probably started to see some small blue check marks by certain brands very similar to Twitter. You may have then gotten a bit jealous and started asking some questions. Wait, are these people special? What do you need to do to get your brand verified? Does this even matter? Well, the answer is yes and Social Fresh has a short article that will answer all of your verification questions.

Video: The Future of Online Marketing?

Tiffany: This week we found that posting a video directly into Facebook (instead of linking to YouTube) has a huge impact on engagement. Need more convincing that video is the future of online marketing? How about these fun facts from a recent comScore survey on online marketing: 13.2 billion video ads are viewed monthly, accounting for 25.1% of all videos viewed and 2.2% of all minutes spent viewing video online. But even more impressive than that, adding video to your online ads increases the stickiness of your message, makes your brand more memorable, and increases direct sales, with some studies tracking back 6% of sales to their video ads.
