We’ve got exciting news to share! FSC Interactive took home 3 awards at the recent 2019 Addy Awards, hosted by the Advertising Club of New Orleans.
Our Local Lens campaign for Visit New Orleans and GoNOLA received the 2019 Addy Awards for Best in Social Media and Best Social Video, while our very own Justin Shiels won Creative Director of the Year!
Local Lens Campaign for New Orleans Tourism
In celebration of the 300th birthday of New Orleans, our Local Lens campaign spotlighted 5 local artists sharing how they draw inspiration from their favorite places and experiences in the city. Visit New Orleans featured artists Simon of New Orleans, Mardi Gras Indian queen Tahj Williams, and Tarriona “Tank” Ball (of Tank and the Bangas). GoNOLA featured artists Cubs the Poet and Maggie Covert LeBlanc, the illustrator behind Walking Man Studios.
Using “One Time, in New Orleans” as a creative premise, each artist developed content that reflected their unique, personal perspectives as New Orleanians through their artistic mediums. Each artist’s vision was creatively reflected over 3 consecutive in-feed social media posts, targeting Visit New Orleans and GoNOLA’s most engaged consumers.
Their art, as well as the contextual assets produced by FSC in the form of interviews, photo shoots, and biographical footage, were positioned to build a creative bridge between local culture bearers and out-of-town culture seekers.
By sharing 1 static image of each artist’s work, 1 multi post featuring local businesses, and 1 video highlighting the artist and their inspiration, we offered engaged visitors an insider perspective to the city they love while generating additional brand awareness and videos views for future re-marketing.
Content was shared via social media advertising, Instagram posts, and Instagram Stories. Traffic was then driven to an exclusive GoNOLA landing page for narratives that offer a deeper, more intimate look at New Orleans culture – inspiring our audience to seek out their own New Orleans story.
The overall campaign won Best of Social Media.
Best Social Video went to a video we created for the @VisitNewOrleans Instagram channel, featuring Tank Ball:
For this video, she wrote and performed an original poem exploring the unique ways NOLA has shaped her as an artist. Tank also shared the campaign on her personal Instagram account @thinktank20 as well as the @tankandthebangas account.
Creative Director of the Year: Justin Shiels
Our very own Justin Shiels took home the Creative Director of the Year award at the 2019 Addy Awards.
As our Creative Director, Justin is passionate about creating compelling strategies, design, and content. He worked hand-in-hand with our Director of Social Media, Whitney Mitchell, and the rest of our team to spearhead the award-winning Local Lens campaign.
Justin has more than a decade of experience in communications, marketing, and graphic design, and he is well-known in New Orleans for a number of his own creative projects. Justin founded INVADE, a now defunct lifestyle magazine about the city of New Orleans which ran for 6 years. At its height, the magazine reached 100,000 users a month through an online site and 10,000 subscribers via email.
He also co-founded VenturePOP, a conference for Creative Entrepreneurs, and he currently sends out Curious Tribe, a weeklyish email designed to spread a little joy and encourage creative people to be a little more curious.
