Wedding season is in full swing! Future brides (and grooms) have been busy choosing color palettes, venues, cake flavors and centerpieces in an attempt to create a memorable experience for their closest family and friends. And if it wasn’t already stressful enough to choose between “classic romance” or “rustic chic,” couples are now facing a much bigger decision that is crucial to their happily ever after: the wedding hashtag. Since 55% of all weddings incorporate a hashtag into their big day, check out these tips on how to create the perfect one.
Start with your names.
To kick-off your brainstorm session use your first, last and nicknames to get the creative juices flowing. Did your roommate already declare your couple name #Bennifer? Embrace it. I mean, two will become one, right? Plus, your guests already know your names, so it will be a piece of cake for them to remember.
Get punny with it.
Here’s your chance to really have fun with your wedding hashtag. Are you both doctors? Play on your profession with something clever like #PagingthePipers. Look for alliterations, rhymes and synonyms that are both clever and memorable.
Double-check the hashtag.
Before you print off those programs, it’s important to check how the hashtag is already being used in the social-sphere, or if it is being used at all. You may think you are categorizing a post correctly, but do your homework. You may be surprised by the posts that are already associated in that hashtag list. AKA: a bride’s worst nightmare. If you find yourself in this situation, adding numbers to the end like your wedding date is an easy fix.
Announce it to the world.
Once you’ve decided on the final hashtag, it’s time to spread the word. Throw it on your wedding website, invitations and any wedding-related events you post to Instagram and Twitter. Let your wedding party know ASAP so they can begin tagging their pictures as well. It won’t be long until the rest of your friends and family catch on and start using it to boost their own excitement toward your big day. Of course, it’s always smart to have additional friendly reminders the day of the wedding just in case someone forgets. A nice welcome sign with the hashtag at the bottom will do the trick.
Soak in the memories.
The morning after your wedding, when you and your better half are off to celebrate being newlyweds in some tropical land, take a moment to go through the hashtag and relive your special night. Having these pictures posted by the people you care most about is a real treat, and it’s nice to leave them a comment to tell them so. Then unplug from the digital world and enjoy being married!
