It’s really easy to use Pinterest, and as a business it can drive a lot of qualified traffic to your website when you build Boards that lead back to specific blog posts or landing pages. Adding diversity to your Pinterest Boards will increase the chances of getting Re-Pinned and gaining the most exposure. Here are 4 unique Pins to add some variety to your feed:

1. Place PinsPinterest-Place-Pins-example-screen-shot

These Pins add the photos you Pin to an actual map and also include extra details like the address and phone number. Businesses can use this to map out multiple locations in one city or across the globe. Travel, hospitality and hotel brands can use these Pins to map out itineraries that give visitors a feel for the destination. Individuals can use these Pins to create shared Boards to map out a vacation and tag places they want to visit with their companions. All you have to do is select “Add to Map” on your Board to start creating custom Place Pins and you’ll see your Pins pop up with markers as you add them. Check out Kate’s post for more on how businesses can use Place Pins.

2. Long Pins

Long Pins are simply longer format Pins — a rectangle instead of a square. Long skinny Pins get clicked on the most because they stand out and take valuable real estate on a screen. They also give you the opportunity to show a lot of information to compel users to click to read the details. Often these are infographics or photos with multiple tips or tricks in a row. Think of ways to diversify your content to incorporate longer format Pins.

3.Price Pins

Price Pins add a banner with a dollar amount across the top of your Pin. Businesses can use this type of Pin to advertise costs or promote sale items. Another way to use these is to display the cost of a project or food dish. For example, a recipe for jambalaya could have the entire cost of all ingredients as the Price Pin or a DIY project could show the entire cost of materials. To add a Price Pin to your post, just include the $ sign anywhere in the description. It’s that easy. Keep in mind, that every Price Pin gets pulled into the Gifts category, which could add even more exposure for your Pin.

4. Rich Pins

Rich Pins are a little more complicated and require some coding on your website. If your site includes specific meta tags that you can find on Pinterest, each Pin will automatically display detailed information each time it is added to a Board. Currently Pinterest offers five types of Rich Pins:

  • Article Pins- These include headline, author, and story description. This provides more information to entice Pinterest users to click through to a blog post or news story on your website.
  • Product Pins- Like Price Pins, these include real time pricing, but also display availability and where to buy. Pinners also get notifications when product Pins they have added drop in price. This is a huge win for retailers, since you know that your audience is already interested in your product and Pinterest will automatically give them an extra incentive to purchase.
  • Recipe Pins- These include ingredients, cooking times and serving info. This is a great opportunity for food and health brands because Pinterest also uses this criteria to help users search by specific categories such as vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free.
  • Place Pins- Remember earlier when I mentioned that Place Pins will auto-populate address and phone number? Adding the Place Pin code will guarantee that every time something is Pinned from your site, it includes the correct information.
  • Movie Pins- These Pins include ratings, cast members, and reviews. Unless you are a movie theater or Netflix, these might not be relevant to your business.
